Description:

1972 Triumph TR6 Convertible/Steel Hard Top

VIN: CC84272U

This original and well-preserved Pimento Red 1972 Triumph TR6 Convertible/steel hard top has less than 40,000 original miles. This car was purchased by the current owner, and the ONLY OWNER of this car, 47 years ago when she was 18 years old.

According to the seller, who writes that the car has always been garaged, covered, and well-maintained by a British car mechanic and has never been in an accident. The car is said to run and drive like a top. The interior is described as immaculate, as seen in the photos.

Engine: The engine is original to the car and has never been rebuilt. Even the original engine hoses have been preserved, together with service manuals and various small replacement parts. Triumph's TR6 was powered by a 2.5-liter OHV inline-six engine with two Zenith=Stromberg carburetors. Horsepower, compression and torque figure varied for TR6 models over the eight-year production history, but continued to provide strong torque throughout the mid-range and higher rpms. The power is provided to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The seller reports that the car starts cold using the choke and takes a couple of minutes to warm up, idling a 1,000-1,100 rpms. No visible leaks or weeps are reported. The transmission is described as shifting smoothly through all the gears. Photos of the engine and engine bay show the engine in original, unmodified form.

Exterior: This Pimento Red TR6 is identified as a no-rust car and no rust repairs have ever been made, according to the seller. The paint is original, as are both the convertible and detachable Steel hardtops. While the roll bar and luggage rack were added at the time of purchase. All trim and lights are complete and said to be in excellent working condition. Crazing can be seen in the paint on the hood, and multiple small chips and scrapes are noted around the car. One very small dent can be seen on the trim strip below the driver's door. The black crinkle protective finish below the trim displays wear but no damage. A single stone chip is noted in the windshield, but it is not in the line of sight. All seals are reported as good with no leaks or water damage, reports the seller.

Interior: The Black Vinyl seats are described by the sell as in excellent condition with no cracks or tears, just like new. The walnut veneer wood dashboard displays a complete set of gauges and controls, including the original AM radio. All are described as in beautiful condition and working properly by the seller. The windows and door locks are manual and described (including the trunk lock) as in excellent condition. The Heat works and there is no air conditioning. The underside of both the convertible and detachable hardtop as described by the seller as in very good condition.

Chassis: The undercarriage of the TR6 features front discs and rear drum brakes with four-wheel independent suspension. The manual rack-and-pinion steering has no play. No suspension work has been required with the low mileage of the car, including the bushing and shocks. The original 15" TR6 wheels with polished trim rings appear to be in very good condition, with only some pitting and paint chips. The unidentified 185/70VR15 period correct red stripe tires are identified as approximately 15 years old with a tread depth of 3/16 inch, reports the seller.

This vehicle will be sold on a clean Idaho title. Also included with the sale are the factory Triumph TR6 Handbook, Clymer Triumph Shop Manual, spare parts, catalogs. Multiple small parts including oil filters, plug wires, bearings, motors, switches, bulbs as well as the original engine hoses. Of course included is the Steel, detachable hard top and the Rag top.

When I was 18 and had just bought this car, my Dad put a dollar in the ashtray so I'd have enough money to buy a gallon of gas to get home. That dollar is STILL in the ashtray. laughingly states the seller. Her Dad is 91 now.

Her Mechanic states the engine is like new, hasn't even been broken in yet, and it needs to be driven.
