The 1999 Sierra 1500 was the first year of GM's GMT800 platform, the ground-up redesign that replaced the long-running GMT400 and introduced the Gen III small-block V8 family to the truck line. A Borla exhaust system replaces the factory setup, adding a deeper tone under throttle while keeping the character of the Vortec's midrange intact.
The build direction is consistent front to back. The suspension has been lowered so the truck sits low over 18-inch black wheels, replacing the factory chrome-plated steel wheels, and the grille and front bumper have been finished in white to contrast against them. A color-matched hard tonneau cover closes off the Wideside short box and keeps the profile clean. Four-wheel antilock disc brakes were standard equipment on the GMT800 from the start, so the truck stops with hardware that was new for its generation rather than carryover from the previous body style.
Inside, the SLE Decor package brought power windows and locks, remote keyless entry, air conditioning, and hi-back reclining bucket seats. The instrument panel carries full gauges with a tachometer, an engine hour meter, and the driver message center, and the factory audio system is an AM/FM stereo with CD player. Deep tinted glass was ordered as an option, and the extended cab uses the wide third-door opening that was new to the platform for 1999.
