1938 Packard 1601-8 convertible sedan. An elegant example of pre-war American automotive craftsmanship featuring a 282 cubic inch L-head straight eight-cylinder engine paired with a manual transmission shifted on the floor. Featuring the thermostat-controlled grill that opens to improve engine cooling after warm-up. Polished black paint, chrome brightwork and hood ornament, and original features such as steel wheels with Packard hubcaps, wide whitewall tires, and running boards. The convertible top, manually operated, has been recently replaced and includes glass windows that fit well. Some minor delamination is noted in some of the glass. Inside this four door, the red interior reveals authentic wear consistent with age on the leather seats, mohair carpeting, and rubber floor mats. Functional elements such as vacuum windshield wipers, the original Stromberg single-barrel carburetor, and a 6-volt electrical system. Recent mechanical maintenance includes a master cylinder and brake hoses. Riding on painted steel wheels with Packard centercaps and beauty rings, with wide whitewall tires. The car's controls include a banjo-style steering wheel, and push-button start. Gauges for, fuel, oil pressure, temperature, and electrical charge are reading. Speedometer odometer, heater and horn are inop. When driving, it is easy to start, a solid feel, and very smooth shifting manual transmission, ease of steering, solid brakes, and surprisingly low wind noise for a 1938 convertible.
