1969 Chevrolet Camaro 396 SS Tribute For Sale
This 1969 Chevrolet Camaro is a period-correct 396 SS tribute not a numbers-matching example, but a professionally built car assembled around a fresh high-performance powertrain and a full chassis rebuild. 1969 was the final year of the first-generation Camaro, and its restyled body remains the most sought-after of the platform, making it a popular canvas for high-performance tribute builds like this one.
Under the hood is a 427-cubic-inch big-block built in a 454 block, using a forged 427 crankshaft, new pistons and rings, a Comp roller cam, roller lifters, and roller rockers. The heads (casting number 358048) have been set up as performance units with new valves, Comp valve springs, and a competition valve job. Induction comes from a Weiand intake topped with an 850 cfm Holley 4150 Double Pumper, and spark is handled by a billet distributor running MSD 6A ignition. Long-tube ceramic-coated headers feed a 2.5-inch exhaust system.
Backing the engine is a Rossler High Performance Street/Strip Turbo 400 with a standard shift-pattern valve body, built specifically for this car and installed new alongside a fresh 3800 stall converter. Power is routed to a Moser 12-bolt rear end with 31-spline axles, a Posi unit, and 4.11 gears also installed new as part of the build. The combination reads as a traditional drag-oriented street/strip setup, geared toward quick launches and strong short-track pulls while still being streetable.
The chassis was rebuilt completely during the build, with new body bushings, new front-end components, new shocks, all-new brakes with stainless lines, and stainless fuel lines. The car was professionally repainted in approximately 2011, with many new exterior trim pieces fitted at that time. The fresh powertrain was installed after paint was completed, and the car has since been stored in the builder's heated garage. Total mileage on the completed powertrain and restoration is less than 300 miles.
Inside, the car has been fully redone with new seats, headliner, upholstery, and carpets, along with a new console. The factory gauge cluster has been retained, with auxiliary gauges mounted in the new console to monitor voltage, oil pressure, water temperature, and fuel. Audio is handled by a modern Retrosound vintage-style head unit that keeps the dash looking period-correct while adding current functionality.
