Description:

While every generation of GM's halo car has a strong argument for which one is best, this triple black1963 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible makes a strong case for the C2. Fully repainted in its original Tuxedo Black, this first-year second-gen car showcases the introduction of a (then) advanced new suspension and wind-influenced aerodynamics, resulting in its sleek yet aggressive body lines. And with just 595 miles on it since it was built, this Inside, we find an attractive stock-style black vinyl interior. A center console separates a pair of bucket seats, while a three-spoke, power-assisted, padded steering wheel sits ahead of a six-pod gauge cluster featuring a big 7,000-rpm tachometer and a 160-mph speedometer. The center stack is highlighted by a large analog clock, accompanied by simple pull-and-twist HVAC controls featuring a switch for upgraded R134a air conditioning and a vertical RetroSounds AM/FM stereo, maximizing the remaining space. Under the signature front-hinged hood, we find a clean engine bay with a 327-cubic-inch overhead-valve V-8. A single four-barrel Edelbrock carburetor sits atop a matching intake manifold, while stock-style exhaust manifolds feed into a true dual side-exit exhaust. That power is routed through a tried-and-true Borg Warner T10 four-speed manual transmission before being sent out to the rear wheels, where fifteen-inch wheels with knock-off-style center caps are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires. Power brakes featuring front discs stand ready to scrub off speed whenever called upon. If you have not yet experienced the exhilaration of driving a droptop C2 down the open road, then this is your chance to find out why so many believe this iteration of the Corvette may just be the best one yet.
