Twinpala Engine-Fail During Burnout at LS Fest

Tony Angelo and Lucky Costa host HOT ROD Garage, and the Twinpala has made a couple appearances on the show. Subscriptions to the MotorTrend App start at $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year after a 14-day free trial offer . Tony Angelo and Lucky Costa of HOT ROD Garage brought their Twinpala project down to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to participate in the festivities at Holley LS Fest. The car made some passes on the dragstrip, but in the burnout contest, one of the engines blew up, a fate that the car already succumbed to once. During the burnout, Tony shifted the front engine into Third gear and the lower radiator hose blew off. Its likely a head-gasket failure that put pressure in the cooling system, Tony said. But its a $700 junkyard motor, so we will get it sorted easy. The next upgrade plan for the car includes multi-layer head gaskets. On Episode 80 of HOT ROD Garage , Tony and Lucky crammed two LS engines under the shell of a 2006 Chevy Impala. The front was easy, because those cars already have a 5.3L engine mounted the wrong way, but the rear of the car needed more than just massaging to make it happen. A Pontiac Grand Prix donated its front subframe and running gear and a custom tubular cradle was made by The Tig to attach it all to the rear of the Impala. The result: a glorious 16-cylinder, twin-engine, all-wheel-drive sleeper that could do opposing burnouts and was stupidly fast. In Episode 82 , the guys took it further by strapping a pair of turbos to the car (one for each engine) and sending down the dragstrip. This now 900-plus-horsepower Frankenstein ran a 10.40-second pass at 139 mph. But after LS Fest, it wont be making numbers like that in the near future. Want to see the car make yet another comeback? Bug those guys on social media, and you might just get what you wish for. The back of the Twinpala looks like a Formula Drift car, with its rear-mounted radiator and ventilated rear window. Thats how the rear engine stays cool. The post Twinpala Engine-Fail During Burnout at LS Fest appeared first on Hot Rod Network .
