1971 CADILLAC 'CROWN' SUPERIOR SOVEREIGN LANDULET HEARSE BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL LOW MILES

SOLD SOLD SOLD Scrolling our website it's obvious we spend, pretty much 24/7, searching for 'really nice' classic funeral coaches and then transporting them, from every corner of the country, back here for restoration for 'front-line duty'. In fact, we sold 4 t one large Mortuary. Despite popular myth that, "all hearses are in mint condition". We find the really nice ones are few and far between. What you're seeing here, is a 46 year-old, great Texas funeral coach. It has only seen a garaged life both with its original funeral home owner and, then culminating in a doctor-owned collection of hearses. It was kept kept in a heated / air conditioned building in Wisconsin. This is a perfect example of one of the most beautiful, original 'Crown Sovereign' models custom made by Superior Coach Builders in Ohio. Despite the fact, it was the beginning of the 'disco decade' and nearly every 70's cult movie made during those years featured a 'BIG' Cadillac, in actuality, a 67 day strike by the U.A.W. (starting 9/14/1970), stymied production and resulted in final sales falling. Factory records show Cadillac only ended up producing 188,537 cars in 1971, the lowest Cadillac production year 6 years running . Total 'commercial chassis production' by Cadillac Motor Cars for all three of the other top coach builders (Miller Meteor, S&S and Superior) was only 2,014 'professional cars'. Top that off with the fact Superior Coachworks only built 1010 Cadillac coaches total ( that included ambulances, flower cars and hearses.) today, when you look at the roster of models offered by each single, 'new' private coach builder in America.... every one of them has a 'Crown' version' of this beautiful coach. Fact is, it was superior that was the first to offer this design. Back in 1971, Superior only built 450 total 'endloaders' that year. The McPherson hearse books do not break out exactly how many of the two different 'Crown' models were 'Crown Sovereign Landulets' vs. 'Crown Limited's' (only prices). But, we can tell by the chassis tag & style of the landau bars this coach is one of the Crown Sovereign Landulet models. Costing $14,344 new ( more then twice the price of a new Coupe Deville at $6265). One can only speculate by extrapulating previous sales, slightly more then 250 were built like this. Cadillac's, for 1971, were completely re-styled and it was the first car in almost a decade that carried a completely new 'commercial chassis'. It was actually 1.5" longer then in previous years. Known as the '69890 model' chassis, it would be the 1st to offer the 472 V8 /365hp V8 that ran on low lead fuels. It was bolted up to an improved 3-spd. automatic transmission. Incidentally, this would also be the last year of the high-horse motors (on paper) as the industry only published 'net horsepower' from 1972 onward. Superior Coach seized this opportunity to also offer every one of the new Superior models completely restyled and redesigned from the ground-up, as well. Another 'fun fact' is that on November, 1971 a showroom stock 1971 Cadillac Coupe Deville placed 3rd in the nationwide, coast to coast "cannonball run" posting the highest speed, at 84.6 mph and 8.9 mpg. So these old Cadillac's were 'no slouches'....... Probably the last of the classic high horse (fast) coaches. This Superior 'Crown' model was their luxury version and it offered a full chrome crown molding from one side of the coach across the top to the other side of the casket chamber. Interior and exterior embellishments accented the body with Crowns in Red with Gold adornments on the partition, sides and back door. This particular coach carries the 'Black Canyon' marble-lized formica table finish, Silver Mica woven fabric drapes and a special embossed faux leather (vinyl) fabric throughout the entire interior. This coach has the usual standard equipment to include power steering & F. disc brakes, roll-up windows, commercial glass on all windows, front bumper guards and, of course, the popular radio 'delete'. It also has the optional (costly) factory air conditioning, remote passenger mirror, oversized visors with chrome lock-down device, argent floor mats and white wall tires. It is finished in White Pearl paint, full front Black leatherette upholstery and carpets with a Black vinyl landau coach top. Mileage : super-low "57,796" and the amazing condition verifies same. The tires, interior, casket chamber and chrome show in superb condition. We have placed the car in our restoration process and are making it worthy of most anyone's discerning eye. It runs like a new car and sits straight beautifully like a funeral car should. This is a great 45 yr.old classic coach, that any 'F.D.' would be happy to have in any funeral car fleet.
