1936 FORD DELUXE MODEL 68 CABRIOLET CONVERTIBLE

1936 FORD DELUXE MODEL 68 CABRIOLET -SORRY THIS BEAUTY JUST SOLD First surprise on these great old Ford 2 door Convertibles is just finding one! You'd think Henry Ford would have built 100,000 but, he didn't. The official count, out of the 791,812 total production of 1936 Ford's built is: 3,862 Deluxe Roadsters and about 4616 Cabriolet Convertibles. The difference being the 'Roadster' had the leaky snap-on side curtains and the 'Cabriolet' had roll-up Windows. So, you can imagine which was the more popular? The 2nd surprise was trying to find one 'bone stock'. Most have been made into Street Roads or Resto-Mods and the original one's are long gone or hard to find unless you journey to the National Ford Meet show field. Part of the reason is this was one (some say, THE ONE) of Henry Ford's most endeared and popular body-styles. They vaporize from the resale scene as quick as the appear. Despite the fact the 1936 Model carried the same body of the 1935 model, it had a slightly restyled hood, front end and rear fenders. The grille consisted of vertical bars extended around the hood sides with the dual horns placed behind chrome screens set into the Fender Catwalks. Pressed Steel wheels gratefully replaced the problematic ire Wheels and the painted emblem hubcaps carried the stylized Ford Emblem which was duplicated in the Hood Ornament. Mechanically, it got a larger radiator, and better cooling through side vents in the hood plus, Helical gears for 1st and Reverse. The Deluxe Models had Bright (Chrome or Stainless) Work around the Grille, Headlamps and Windshield, as well as, the fore mentioned Dual Horns and Tail Lights- formally an option. Later in the year, the Deluxe Models got Dual Windshield Wipers, Wheel Trim Rings, and Clock. "Options" were few and far between yet, 5 different Radios were offered w/ Radio Antenna, Heater, the Clock, Cigar Lighter, Banjo Steering Wheel, Seat Covers, Spotlight, Rumble Seat, Electric Horns, Gas Gauge and 'Leather' Upholstery completed the roster. This particular car was originally discovered in West Palm Beach and I sold to a successful local Doctor and his Wife from Jupiter Island in 1999. They drove it in local Parades, for Ice Cream and to the Beach on Sunday with very limited use (really!) . The clock shows "44 miles more" in 20 years. It became a 'proud possession' rather then transportation. It is finished in Desert Tan / Red Pinstripe with Brown Naughyde Interior w/ 2-Tome wheels & Glamour Rings. It has the Rumble Seat Option, White Wall Tires, Gooseneck mirror, Grey hound Hood ornament (added), Gas Gauge, Banjo Steering Wheel, Haartz Cloth Soft Top & Boot. An Early version, it carries a single Mirror and Wiper. It retains the 85 hp. Flathead V8 and 3-speed gearbox. This is another great 'Barn Car' find (except it was an Estate on the Island), almost a time capsule- ready for restoration or drive-any-time project. It will be priced and re-priced during it's journey back to 'restored' driver condition . As seen here, in for service, at our 80 year old's, mechanical repair shop, then to a 30's Ford Specialist and then at the Detail Shop. Just arrived. It also features a Beige Canvas LeBaron Bonney Soft Top, Boot and Interior. We have done the Brakes, Distributor, Generator, dropped the Gas Tank / refurbished, Complete Tune-up from stem to stern, revitalized the Hub Caps, Glamour Rings and Whitewalls, rebuilt the Fuel System/Carburetor, Polished the Chrome and Body. Pictured here top Up and Down. The bumper brackets were restored with Epoxy Paint. New Greyhound Hood Ornament just added. We will continue resto. and reprice accordingly as the car is really nice. A great buy at $48,500 SOLD!! NADA Classic Book $47,700 Average, and $68,000High....... yet, 2 recent older frame-off's just sold for $140,000.
