BMW Nixes M8 Coupe and Convertible From 2021 U.S. Model Line

BMW has a large list of updates for its 2021 model year vehicles. Most of the changes to the German automaker's vehicles are minor, however, theres a very significant and large hole in the portion of the list related to the 8 Series: the M8 coupe and convertible are no more. And were unsure of when (or if) the duo will be back. Dont worry, if you dont mind a couple of extra doors the M8 Gran Coupe remains available. And it seems that getting your hands on a BMW M8 shouldnt be very difficult, since Automotive News reported in March that the cars are stacked up at dealers. If anything, the climate hasnt gotten any better for sales of pricey, high-performance two-door cars. --> It seems that rather than pile even more M8 coupes and convertibles on American lots, BMW is simply taking a break from importing the models. It might be temporary, it might be permanent. A spokesperson for BMW only acknowledged that there wont be any 2021 M8 coupes or convertible in the U.S., but shared that anyone interested in the cars should reach out to their dealers about availability. Read between the lines and it seems pretty obvious that BMW knows it has plenty of 2020 M8 coupes and convertibles to pawn off to any buyer who wants one. Recall the lesser 8 Series models are quite well-liked on our shores, too. And there are plenty of other ways to scratch the full M car itch: the M5 sedan and little M2 Competition coupe are both available for 2021. Not to mention the full suite of M SUVs: the X3 M, X4 M, X5 M, and X6 M. Plus, BMW also offers the Alpina XB7 and Alpina B7 for those who want an even more rarified ownership experience. Perhaps even more excitingly, the BMW M3 and M4 will be back for 2021, both launching early next year. We hope to have more details on those two M models in the coming weeks. Auto manufacturing is a business. If people start buying the M8 in greater numbers, BMW will likely bring it back for 2022. If not, then its fate might be writ big. And the big M8 might be no more.
