Who doesnt love Big Daddy Roths Beatnik Bandit and if youre a San Francisco area resident and youd like to see Ed Roths first creation built to drag kids into buying a creepy monster shirt at a custom car show heres your chance. Any time of the year the Beatnik Bandit can be found on permanent exhibit at the National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada, but on July 21. 2019 the pearl white, bubble-topped beauty will mingle with the crme de la crme of automobiles at the 64 th annual Hillsborough Concours d Elegance in Burlingame, California. Theres a couple of intriguing things happening here, first its interesting to note the Hillsborough Concours d Elegance is the longest running Concours in the world and perhaps the best kept secret in the world of car shows. A visit to the Hillsborough Concours d Elegance website and perusing photo galleries from years past reveals the events everyone is welcome attitude regarding the type of car shown has been the key to its ongoing success. No snobbery in a potentially snob rich environment, hot rods graze with muscle cars flanked with some very rare vintage exotic and luxury cars. The featured marque for 2019 is Porsche with a respectable stable of the German brand present including a Porsche 917K racecar known for its dominance endurance racing at 24 Hours of Le Mans and 24 Hours of Daytona in 1970 and 1971. In all there will be over 200 of the worlds most treasured collector cars adorning the 18 th fairway of Burlingames Crystal Springs Golf Course on 21, 2019. A few quick facts: The Beatnik Bandit built circa 1960 and featured on the May 1961 cover of Car Craft magazine was Ed Big Daddy Roths only creation built on a passenger car frame not a fabricated purpose-built frame. Based on a 1950 Olds 88 frame shortened to an 85-inch wheelbase and powered by a 6 71 GMC blown 303-inch 50 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 engine. Concepted by Joe Henning and Big Daddy Roth, fiberglass work from starting to make molds in the summer of 1960 to paint prep Dirty Doug and Big Daddy Roth. Custom acrylic lacquer gold Murano pearl white paint with fogged panels by Larry Watson. Pearlescent white pleated Naugahyde interior by Eddie Martinez. The Beatnik Bandit if one thinks about it, kind of looks like a 1958-60 T-Bird frontend with the water sucked out of it. The grille is from a 1959 Ford Galaxie and the Roth logoed nose emblem from a 1957 Ford Fairlane hood maybe. The Beatnik Bandit was a part of the 1,400 plus car Bill Harrah collection in Sparks, Nevada, and we believe one of the 175 Harrahs cars donated back by Holiday Inn to help the National Automobile Museum open in 1989.
