This 1960 Corvette was built to produce 1G of acceleration, 1G of braking, and 1G of lateral grip. The 3Gs are hard enough to attain with a late model car, so to raise the bar, Art and Craig Morrison did it with a 60s Corvette, a car that handles like a shake weight. After finding a resale red with white coves basket in Washington State, Craig and Art Morrison stripped it down and added a GT Sport replacement chassis, which uses C5 front suspension and a four bar. To make it fast, an aluminum 427-inch Bill Mitchell small block was added and a Tremec six-speed. Power is in the high 500s. To make it stop, they added a set of 14-inch Wilwood brakes with six-piston calipers and four-piston calipers in the back. Craig estimated 3,000 hours of labor went into the car. To prove its worth, the car was taken to the SEMA show where it won the Grand Tourismo award, and appeared later in the game. Its great because you can crash the car in the game without damaging the real thing, Craig says. At the time, Popular Hot Rodding was covering the build and the editors took the car to Fontana for some testing. There it achieved the goal of 3Gs and ran 12.44 at 120 mph in the quarter mile. All while retaining the look and vibe of a 60s Corvette. The car dropped the mic and retired to Art Morrisons garage where it spent Sunday afternoons on back roads and the rest of its days covered and heated. Its time to move on.
